A video performance focusing on three doll-like avatars, using found audio and exaggerated
mannerisms to critique the bodily taboo of menstruation and the commodity of femininity.

American Girl Talk is a satirical single-channel video performance in which Carlton embodies multiple hyper-feminine, doll-like avatars placed in a domestic setting. Drawing on found audio from the video podcast Cancelled, she stages a surreal exchange between three characters modeled after the American Girl dolls, who discuss their bodies, menstruation, and sexuality in ways that are both grotesque and humorous, critiquing the taboos surrounding femininity.
