Labor Painz
(2024)
two-channel digital video
1:52 min

A two-channel video projection set on the same dining table, split between two contrasting scenes: on the left, a yellow-tinted birth;

on the right, a blue-toned, faceless striptease, collapses domestic, sexual, and bodily labor into a single, surreal stage.

Labor Painz is a two-channel video projection that stages two conflicting performances within the same setting, on top of a dining table in a domestic space. On the left screen, tinted in yellow, a character screams through the act of giving birth. On the right, washed in blue, a faceless woman dances in scant clothing sensually to club music atop the same table. Although filmed in the same location, the two videos unfold very differently, their color palettes creating a clear split between two existences of the female body. Together, the paired projections explore how the female body is framed and consumed.
